You just can’t miss the craze of Pokémon Go, which has seen millions of people set foot outside to seek and catch virtual Pokémon on the streets, in river beds, by the beach, and even at mountain peaks. In just a few days, the game has gone on to be one of the most popular mobile games ever, and is one of the first major augmented reality type games – using a combination of GPS, maps, and your iPhone’s camera – to add a whole new dimension to gameplay.

One problem players have noted, however, is that the game is a massive battery killer =, which doesn’t go well when the whole point of the game is to physically be outside away from your charger. There’s not many ways of really preventing this through game or phone settings, but there is a way to keep you playing Pokémon Go – and that is with battery cases.

Battery cases and portable chargers allow you to charge your iPhone on the go, giving you about twice the amount of battery life – sometimes even more. They’re perfect for Pokémon Go adventures, and for the times you’re going to be away from the charger – a camping trip, music festival and everything else.

There are a lot of options out there, so I thought I’d put together some of the best out there into the one guide:

Apple Smart Case for iPhone 6/6s

I’m going to start off with Apple’s official battery case called the Smart Case, which is designed for the smaller iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s in mind. This offering is about as simple as it gets – just slide your iPhone in and it will start charging your iPhone on the go.

Smart Case

The case is pretty much Apple’s silicon case, but with a built-in battery, giving it a soft-feeling finish. iOS will even display the battery indicator from the notification screen on your iPhone. However, just to point out, there is no on-off switch with this case; once on, it will automatically start charging.

The Apple Smart Case is available from Apple Australia for A$165, Apple New Zealand for NZ$189 and Apple US for US$99

Boostcase Hybrid Battery Case for iPhone

The design of Boostcase’s battery case is one of the most interesting to me because it’s a two-piece system, which allows you to easily attach or detach the battery when you want. One piece is an ultra-thin case which will protect your iPhone just like any other protective case, but it also allows for the battery sleeve to be attached.

Once the battery sleeve is on simply use the on and off switch to charge your iPhone when you wish. The end result is a battery case which is fairly slim, but can still provide your iPhone with a lot more battery on the go.

The Hybrid Case is available from Try & Byte for the iPhone 6/6s, iPhone 6/6s Plus, the iPhone 5/5s and even the new iPhone SE.

Mophie Battery Cases for iPhone

I can’t do a battery case article without mentioning Mophie, who are one of the leading companies behind the battery case. They have a range of options including ones which provide 100% extra battery life, others which provide even more at 150% more or even the world’s first waterproof battery case, which I wrote about late last year.

All of their battery cases have built-in batteries, on-off switches, and protect your iPhone at the same time. They are one of the popular, and in my opinion best, choices of battery cases out there.

To explore the range of Mophie battery cases head over to the Mophie website or if you’re in Australia or New Zealand Macintosh Addict have great pricing on all of their cases plus more.
