If you ever go to open Maps, be it Apple Maps or Google Maps while in AirPlane mode or while having little to no data connection you’ll be told you need the internet – A fairly common thing when you’re travelling internationally or in a remote area.
It’s true to say Google Maps now allows you to save areas of maps offline, but getting directions still requires you to be online, Apple Maps also requires you to be online so neither is a great offline solution. Recently I came across an app called HERE WeGo which solves all of this, I’ve been so impressed by the features I wanted to share it.
HERE WeGo has offline maps of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia and more than 100 other countries around the world.
HERE WeGo, a free app allows you to download complete offline maps for more than 100 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and lots more. This means the maps are saved on your iPhone or SmartPhone and can be used when in AirPlane mode with no data at all. You can choose to download every map available around the world, or by specific country.
What impresses me most, the ability to get routeing (directions) is still possible even when in offline mode – bike routes included. So even with no data connection, you can get directions from your current location (Point A) to point B by a number of options including by car, walking, bike, and more. The app will even display the elevation of the suggested bike routes so you know what you’re In for.
On top of this, the app has many other features from live traffic, public transit maps for over 1,300+ cities, cab fare estimates, turn-by-turn directions, and lots more.
