By now there is a big chance you would be familiar with a segment called ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ hosted by James Corden, on his late night talk show and which has become a viral hit around the world.
Each segment sees James Corden pick up a celebrity, followed by singing their favourite songs with the host as they drive around. From Madonna to Justin Bieber and even the former First Lady Michelle Obama, the segment has been responsible for some of the most watched videos on YouTube – including over 148 million views on Adele’s edition of the segment alone.
What you may not know is that Apple recently purchased the rights to develop a 16-episode series based on the segment as an exclusive show for their music streaming service – Apple Music. While Apple Music has a library of music videos, it is interesting to see Apple make the step into developing a show.
‘Carpool Karaoke: The Series‘ on Apple Music is based on the original segment, however it will be slightly different in this format. While the show is produced by CBS and James Corden as a co-producer each episode will see a different celebrity pairing, riding along while singing their favourite music – not to mention, a few surprises.
The first trailer has revealed that the series will feature James Corden, Will Smith, Billy Eichner, Metallica, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ariana Grande, Seth MacFarlane, Chelsea Handler, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, John Cena, Shaquille O’Neal, and more.
