By now there is a big chance you have seen the new PRODUCT(RED) iPhone, Apple’s first special edition. This is one of four new product releases Apple released last week on March 22nd, 2017, with no doubt many more on the way.
Here I want to give a quick summary of all four announcements, starting with one I felt was less covered – new Apple Watch bands.
The variety of Apple Watch Bands available for purchase separately has been given a refresh for spring/autumn. Three new Sports Bands have been added to the existing ten, while six new woven bands have been added almost doubling the options. The Classic Leather bands have a new square buckle, that is spring-loaded, is available in seven colours and the Hermès Leather Bands have received six new colours. The biggest addition (in what I felt was somewhat of a surprise) is the release of Nike+ bands. These are not exactly new, but to get them in the past you had to buy the Nike+ Apple Watch. That is still on sale, however, the Nike+ bands are no longer exclusive meaning all Apple Watch users can now purchase them.
For a long time there was a fairly big line-up of iPad models, but for the new iPad, the successor to the iPad Air 2 Apple has chosen to simplify the range. Something I feel is a very good decision.Simply called iPad it features a retina display, fast performance, 10-hour battery life, Touch ID, Apple Pay, and front and rear cameras. It may look exactly like the previous generation iPad, but its price is not, with this new iPad being the cheapest 9.7-inch iPad Apple has released – in Australia it is now under A$500.
Special edition PRODUCT(RED) Apple products go back over the last 10 years, which have seen a portion of the purchase go to funding a campaign to fight AIDS in Africa. Over the years we’ve seen a special edition U2 iPod, iPod Touch, and more, but for the first time it’s the iPhone. The special edition red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus has been released for the 10-year partnership between Apple and PRODUCT(RED). The iPhone itself is the current generation iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but comes with a vibrant red aluminium finish.
Sharing videos with stickers, filters, and fun effects are something increasingly seen in popular apps, including Instagram. Apple is soon going to be releasing an app called Clips.
This upcoming app will allow you to capture video then “jazz it up” with filters, stickers, captions, and more, then share it on a range of platforms. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, iMessage, and YouTube are listed – in a way Apple has created their own video social media app to work with social media not be one on its own.
The new iPhone, iPad, and Watch Bands can now be ordered from Apple’s online store. It is also worth pointing out the 4-inch iPhone SE has had its storage doubled to 32 GB and 128 GB for the same price.Share
