The Academy Award winning documentary feature, An Inconvenient Truth, released in 2006 by Al Gore, took some big steps toward the monumental challenge of tackling the topic of climate change – while giving the world a much-needed wake up call. Today, on the heels of another blow to this cause, comes the trailer for An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, which is instead a call to action.
In the eleven years since Gore’s original film the debates surrounding climate change have become a regular fixture in public dialogue, politics, and other media (including the recent Before the Flood (2016) by National Geographic). Despite the warnings by scientists and academics – encompassing decades of research and analysis – to take notice, we have been slow on the uptake in many ways. ‘An Inconvenient Sequel’ appears to present an outlook, not only of fear, but one of hope, too – showing us how far we still have to go, but also how far we have come.
“Former Vice President Al Gore continues his tireless fight traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Cameras follow him behind the scenes – in moments both private and public, funny and poignant — as he pursues the inspirational idea that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.”
An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power arrives later this year (August 24 in Australia), promising to once again shake up discussion and polarise political discourse.
