Sydney To Host International Smartphone Short Film Festival

In what will be their third year, SF3 (SmartFone Flick Fest) will again run Australia’s only international smartphone film festival – an event that is open to anyone of all ages, who want to share a story through film.

This year the event will be returning to Paddington’s Chauvel Cinema on Thursday 24th August 2017 for the Gala Final Awards Screening night. Out of the hundreds of short films entered, 10 are screened, in addition, a Kids Flick Pick winning film and winner of the #FILMBREAKER award for the first-time filmmaker.

The winner of this year’s festival will also see their film screened at the Global Mobile Film Awards in San Diego, set to occur April 2018 for the first time in SF3’s history.

“Smartphone filmmaking has burst into the mainstream in recent years, with many TV shows and feature films in the U.S. shooting on smartphones,” says Angela. “The critically acclaimed 2015 film Tangerine was shot entirely on an iPhone 5s and picked up a slew of awards recently at some of the top international film festivals.”

Interested in submitting your own film? The requirements are much the same as previous years. Every film must be shot on a smartphone such as an iPhone or a tablet including iPads. They must not be any longer than six and a half minutes long (including credits) and VR/360 films are accepted.

While the event will occur in Sydney Australia, it is open to everyone worldwide, both beginners and professionals. For more information on the event including full submission requirements please head over to the SmartFone Flick Fest Festival’s website.
